Hellraiser is an original film in an era and genre dominated by cliches. Clever transmutations of tropes and multiple layers of evil stack well in this brilliant and satisfying horror film. One of my favorite details in this movie is how Frank needs permission from Julia before he crosses the threshold of her abode.
Hellraiser is a 1987 British supernatural horror film written and directed by Clive Barker, and produced by Christopher Figg, based on Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart. The film marked Barker's directorial debut. The film involves the resurrection of Frank (Sean Chapman), who had opened the door to an alternate dimension and had his body torn to pieces by creatures known as Cenobites.
Earth has been silenced, and mankind eradicated by one final war. Now in the bowels of Hell, Pinhead - leader of the Cenobites - finds himself bored, tortured by his own immortality, and facing the fear that his own dark legion will eventually turn upon him.Stuck on your essay? However, I was left suitably impressed with the first Hellraiser! It's a great Horror story with lots of originality and is now, of course, a Cult Classic which I can't help feeling it was destined to be. It's creepy, very very 80s (!) and a lot of death-scenes will make you whince! The Cenobytes are genuinely frightening and the overall concept and feel of the film is amazing and captured.Read More
